Bad Feminist Reader

Roxane Gay’s Bad Feminist chronicles the many things the author likes and does that the traditional view of feminism tells women they shouldn’t enjoy if they are a good feminist. This short reader puts one of the book’s essays, The Bad Feminist Manifesto in conversation with another piece by Gay rebuking famous feminist bell hooks’ critique of Beyoncé’s feminism.

The excerpts feature contrasting pink and black elements to illustrate Gay’s assertion that she used to pretend her favorite color was black to seem cool, but now embraces her love of pink. There are also nested half-pages for pull quotes and a sub-section of one of the pieces, How to be Friends with Another Woman, that evokes the feel of a pocket guide.
